Lab
In short
Choose a photo of a place you know: a room, a hallway, a street. A garden grows out of it, along the folds, lines and light that were already there. You set the instrument; there is nothing to type. The Bench is in closed beta for now: a small group of testers grows photos while we tune it.

The Bench opens soon
Right now a small group of testers grows photos here while we tune it. Leave your email and we'll tell you when it opens to everyone.
2What you are looking at
People often ask if this is a filter, or a picture an AI made up. Look closer and you can tell it is neither.

(a) Your photo

(b) Grown

PhotoGrown- Your place stays your place. Every object stays where it was. The light, the shadows and the folds all come from your photo. Only what grows is new.
- Only nature grows here. The calm, repeating patterns you find on a forest walk, in your photo's own colours and light. No faces in the clouds, no eyes in the wallpaper.
- Composed by hand, not by chance. Like a perfumer with a formula, we compose every recipe by eye, study after study, and release it only when it feels right. Recipe Nº 01 is the first.

3Where it sits
There are many ways to change a picture. Most either lay the same texture over it or invent a new one. We wanted the third way: let something grow out of what the picture already holds.
Filters paint over, style transfer borrows, generators invent. We grow.
A filter would look the same on every photo. Here a floor grows differently than a wall, and a wall differently than a curtain. The forms follow the shapes that were already there, which is why no two pictures grow alike.
| Method | New content comes from | What changes | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Filters and presets | A fixed recipe, the same for every photo | Colour, grain, texture on top | The same shapes, a new surface |
| Style transfer | A painting or another image | Strokes and textures, borrowed | Your layout in someone else's hand |
| AI repainting | What a model learned elsewhere | Parts redrawn with new content | Partly replaced |
| AI image generators | A text prompt | Everything | A new picture |
| Hofmanns Dream | What it finds in your photo1 | Forms grow out of its folds, edges and light | Still your place, now grown |
- Grown by our own software. It looks at your photo, finds the forms it recognises there, and strengthens them again and again until they grow. It knows the shapes of plants best, so that is what grows.
4Where the work is
Hofmanns Dream is a small lab, and this page is its notebook. Here is what works today, what we are trying out with the first testers, and what comes after.
| Works today | Still pictures of rooms and places. The Bench grows still pictures from your photos of rooms and places, in two colour moods, Deep sea and Desert dusk, each in Light or Night. |
|---|---|
| Testing now | Closed beta. A small group of testers is trying the Bench before it opens to everyone. Leave your email on the Bench and we'll tell you when it opens. Every photo is checked when it arrives, and every picture before you see it. Photos with faces, or where a person is the subject, aren't grown yet. |
| Testing now | Loops. Your picture slowly coming alive, starting and ending on your own photo. |
| Adding now | Outdoor examples. Streets, stations, woods and lakeshores are joining the examples on this page. |
| Next | More colours and controls. More colour moods, more strength levels and a choice of form size. |
| After that | People, close-ups and textures. Once they grow as well as rooms do. |
New patterns appear first in the Inspiration Gallery.

6Questions
Isn't this just AI, or a filter?
It is made with our own software, but it is neither of the two you may know. A filter lays the same texture over everything. An image generator paints a new picture that only looks like yours. Hofmanns Dream grows out of your photo itself: every shape follows something that is really there, so when you look closer you can still find your photo underneath.
Why does the free preview show it through a lens?
Once the Bench opens, seeing your photo grown is free, 3 times. A lens moves over your photo and shows what grew underneath, right down to the smallest detail; you can drag it around. The whole picture stays with us until you buy, so it is yours alone. Then it opens up, all of it, in full size.
Which photos work best?
Rooms and outdoor places with texture and light: a hallway, a kitchen, a staircase, a street, a forest path. Very smooth surfaces such as polished metal mostly stay as they are. For the beta, the Bench takes rooms and places only, with no people in them.
Who can see my pictures?
Only you. They are tied to your account. Photos and pictures from the Bench are deleted 30 days after upload, so save the ones you like to your phone. You can delete your whole account at any time. Location data is removed from every upload. The privacy policy has the details.
How do I save it on my phone?
Once you keep a picture, tap “Save to photos” under it. If you opened us from Instagram or TikTok, press and hold the picture and choose “Save”.
Is it calm to look at?
Yes. Your result is a still picture in your photo's own colours. Nothing moves or flashes.
Can I grow a video?
Not yet. Films are growing now, and the Bench grows photos.
Something went wrong. Who can help?
Write to us on the support page. A person answers, usually within a day or two.
ABackground
Hofmanns Dream began in 2020 as a night project. No lab and no training in computer science: one person, an old open experiment that someone else had given up on, and a question about what we really see when we keep looking at something.
It was tuned by eye, night after night, long before it was understood. The first films were rough, bike rides and waterslides worked through frame by frame. Without any advertising they were watched tens of millions of times, mostly by people who couldn't quite say what they were looking at, only that they couldn't look away.
Not everyone believed in it, and for a while it went quiet. It never really let go. In October 2026 it came back, rebuilt from the ground up and done properly this time, with one rule: only nature grows here, and your place stays yours. The eye still decides. Recipe Nº 01 is the first we are ready to share.
